  • Position Summary
    • This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by this employee. He or she will be required to follow any other instructions and to perform any other duties requested by his or her supervisor.

    • Services in our main laboratories consist of eight technical areas (Blood Bank, Chemistry, Coagulation, Hematology, Urinalysis, Microbiology, Cytology and Anatomic Pathology) to perform blood, tissue and body fluid analysis on patient samples and transfusion services. Specimen analysis is supported by our phlebotomy and specimen processing departments.
    • Under the direction of the Section Head with oversight by the Laboratory Director the MLS/MLT III is responsible for performing clinical laboratory procedures to include phlebotomy which require the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility in those categories in which he/she is qualified by education, training and experience. Job specific criteria will vary depending on the clinical area assigned. The MLS/MLT III is responsible for the performance of testing activities that promote the highest level of quality laboratory processing and analysis achievable. Effectively consults and collaborates with other health care team members to assure the provision of safe, appropriate patient care: the right test on the right patient at the right time. MLS/MLT III maintains competency in more than one sectionof the laboratory. MLS/MLT III maintainscompetency at both LRGH and FRH Laboratory.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Education:
      • Required – Bachelor's Degree or Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or other science degrees accepted in conjunction with a combination of experience and training.
    • Training:
      • Required
        • Education, training and experience to qualify as general testing personnel in accordance with CLIA'88 regulations.
        • Knowledgeable of laboratory regulations and proficient in aspects of continuous quality improvement.
        • A current, comprehensive understanding of the concepts of laboratory medicine and how this knowledge can best be applied, in direct collaboration with the patient care team, in arriving at the correct diagnosis at the correct time on the correct patient.
    • Experience: Varies with designated laboratory section.
      • Preferred –
        • 1-5 Years in an acute care hospital laboratory.
    • Certification, Licensure, Registration Requirements: Current credentials are required for all practitioners requiring a license, certification or registration to perform their responsibilities.
      • Licensure: – N/A
      • Certification:
        • Required – BLS – Healthcare Provider
        • Preferred – MLS (ASCP) or MLT (ASCP) or equivalent. MLS (ASCP) or MLT (ASCP) to be obtained within one year of hire.
