Critical care involves complex assessment skills and interventions performed by nurses who are able to function effectively under intense circumstances. Working with the interdisciplinary team, critical care nurses care for critically ill or injured patients within the intensive care unit.
Duties include: Assessment, implementation and coordination of complex care and interventions Supporting a compassionate and therapeutic environment for critically ill patients Collaborating with patients, their families, their healthcare providers, and healthcare professionals Acting as patient advocates Arranging and overseeing continuous monitoring and nursing vigilance Interpreting diagnostic tests
Education: Required – Graduate from an accredited school of nursing Preferred – Bachelor of Nursing Degree
Training: Required Understanding, compassion, and patience in dealing with interdisciplinary team, patients, and families. Ability to observe and interpret patient's response to health problems and care. Ability and willingness to assume primary responsibility for patient care. IV competency completed within 6 months of hire. Experience: Preferred Previous nursing experience Telemetry, intensive care, or critical care experience Certification, Licensure, Registration Requirements: Current credentials are required for all practitioners requiring a license, certification or registration to perform their responsibilities. Licensure: Required – Current NH RN license Certification: Required Adv Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and basic dysrhythmia course completion within 60 days of hire BLS – Healthcare Provider Telemetry certification within 6 months of hire Preferred – Critical Care RN within 2 years of hire
